Xplorer is a network operating in connection with LUT University, aimed at promoting sustainable mineral circulation, connecting researchers and institutions working on the subject, and providing additional information on the topic to both experts and students interested in the field.

A network without visuality

The development of the Xplorer network began in late 2020 when the project leaders reached out to Avidly Agency, and I was appointed as the lead designer to create a logo and visual guidelines for the network, as well as to build a simple website to kickstart their operations.

The network had a wealth of scientific data and information on the topic, but they lacked both the channels and presentation materials to communicate their insights to stakeholders.

In the early stages of the project, the first step was to design a logo and an initial visual identity for the network, ensuring that the first WordPress Elementor-based website and presentation materials would be cohesive and credible in relation to the subject.

Fortunately, the network had some supporting illustrations through the LUT connection, so the visual focus was primarily on the design of the logo, typography, icons, the website, and PowerPoint presentations.

From a UX and UI perspective, the key task was to identify and structure the most essential information from the large amount of data to present to the identified target groups, and to build the website’s structure and functionalities around that data.
